The United States is a country full of traditions that enrich its culture. Every date, commemoration, or holiday has its own unique charm and way of being celebrated.
One of the most important dates for young Americans is Spring Break, a unique occasion where students relax and have fun with their friends.
What is Spring Break?
Spring Break is a typical party organized by college students and exchange students that takes place mostly during the first week of spring, in March, although it can start earlier and extend into April.
It is a period when these young people decide to travel, go to parties, and enjoy the beaches of the United States or Central America, leaving behind the stress and routine of university life. It is also a time to practice sports, especially water sports.
Destinations can be domestic or international. Within the former, the state of Florida leads the way, hosting the largest number of students or "springbreakers" year after year.
So much so that in recent years, some destinations in Florida have been forced to increase security and control protocols to prevent young people from losing control due to alcohol and the euphoria of the moment.
When is Spring Break?
As the name suggests, this season begins with the arrival of spring. However, depending on the location, spring break can start in late February and extend until mid-April.
In recent years, the trend has shifted toward an earlier start to the season, with many students arriving in Miami and other destinations in the third week of February.
4 best places for Spring Break
The destinations for Spring Break are varied, but they always include beaches, parties, and water sports. Among the best places young people can go during their spring break are:
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
This is where this incredible tradition originated. Fort Lauderdale was the destination chosen by the Colgate University swim team from New York in 1934, when their coach concluded it was the ideal place for their training.
After that event, the gathering became an annual experience, giving way to what would become a ritual for all students.
Miami, Florida
Another city highly chosen by college students to spend Spring Break. Not only does it have incredible beaches, but it is also a city with many entertainment options, such as sports, natural parks, shopping malls, and nightclubs.
Cancun, Mexico
A highly coveted destination for lovers of the Caribbean paradise. Cancun is a place prepared to host tourists in its best all-inclusive resorts, white sand beaches, and nightlife.
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
Located in Baja California, Mexico, the city of Cabo San Lucas has also established itself as one of the top choices for young people to kick off spring. Like the other destinations listed, Cabo features beautiful beaches and a wide variety of nightlife to enjoy.
